CNEC Science department offers a comprehensive, seventh through twelfth grade science curriculum.
Students in seventh and eighth grade receive foundational science instruction in Life Science (7th grade) and Physical science (8th grade). Based on math placement and recommendations, some seventh grade students may be enrolled in Advanced Science 7. Based on prior course work and recommendations, eighth grade students may be enrolled in Physical Science, Honors Science 8, biology, or honors biology. All students will receive the study habits, critical analysis skills, and lab techniques necessary to prepare them for high school science.
Students entering high school can tailor their high school science coursework to fulfill high school graduation, CSU, and UC entrance requirements. Basic courses offered include earth science, biology, honors biology, geology, chemistry, honors chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology. Advanced coursework includes AP biology, AP chemistry, AP environmental science, and AP physics. AP courses are designed to prepare students to meet the demands of college level science and prepare students to take designated AP exams in the spring. Enrollment in these courses includes taking prerequisite science and math classes along with teacher recommendations.
