Granite Ridge Art
For seventh grade beginners, the one-semester class provides a solid introductory background which exposes students to a variety of media/mediums. Throughout the semester students learn such skills as drawing in linear perspective, composition, painting, and to investigate basic color theory, as well as exploring art from historical
and cultural perspective. It is designed to provide each student with the
opportunity to attain skills to express him/herself creatively, to respond to
visual elements in the environment, to understand the cultural origins of art;
and to analyze, interpret and evaluate art.
Granite Ridge Advanced Art
Following the semester class, a year-long advanced class
provides eighth graders the chance to build on what they already have learned,
and explore more complex art projects, including multimedia and some 3-D art,
as well as more advanced color theory. District
and valley art shows and contests are frequently entered by these students.
Granite Ridge students completing both Beginning and Advanced
Art will have the opportunity to skip Art 1 at Clovis North and go directly
into Art 2. Also, new in 2020 with Art teacher’s recommendation, eighth
graders will be able to take Advanced Art. If they meet the requirements after
completing Advanced Art, they will also be able to go directly into Art 2 at
Clovis North - even if they did not take Beginning Art.
